Bolsover Street
London SW1

104-108 Bolsover Street is a 7 storey structure including ground floor plus basement built circa 1965. It is supported by an insitu concrete structure of flat slab construction. The slabs consist of reinforced concrete ribs separated by hollow terracotta tiles some 250mm thick. These are supported on wide shallow beam strips within the depth of the floor. Vertical support is provided by reinforced concrete columns and lift shaft.

NEW FACADE

Originally the structure was designed for office use. Contractors Design Services were appointed by the John O’Neill Partnership to provide structural engineering services to convert the structure into youth hostel accommodation on a Design and Build contract on behalf of the Youth Hostel Association. The structural works in this regard included a redesign of the existing front and rear elevations and construction of new service penetrations throughout the building.
