Temporary Works: Demolition of part of building.
Client:
 Trenchco Ltd.
Project value: £3m

A large detached residential property in Notting Hill, London W2.

Works comprised the demolition of an existing building except the front and side façades, and then the construction of a multi level basement underneath virtually the whole demise. The excavation depths were up to 10m b.e.g.l.

CDS acted as specialist design consultants to Trenchco Ltd. who undertook the structural works above and below ground. This covered pile design (contiguous and bearing), all temporary works associated with restraint of retained façades, design justification for top-down construction, including suspending lower floors, underpinning and associated propping, overall sequence of works and reviewing movement monitoring data.

Of particular interest was the design and construction of bored raking piles to maximise space-gain underneath a protected tree in the rear garden. CDS also managed to make smaller diameter piles work by utilising the rc liner wall to act compositely.
