Temporary works are the parts of a construction project that are needed to enable the permanent works to be built.  Usually, the temporary works are removed after use (as with access scaffolds, shoring, excavation support, falsework and formwork), although they can be incorporated into the permanent works; for example, a temporary sheet pile wall could be used as the permanent solution for a basement wall.
